Thomas has been naming the Harry Potter tour as one of his anticipated highlights, so he was up early to put his new Harry Potter T shirt and jumper (thanks Marion & Andrew!) and new time turner necklace (thanks Sue & Ed!). Helen joined in with her own new Harry Potter T shirt (thanks Sue & Ed!). Then we promptly covered everything up with three layers of fleece. It's the thought that counts.
Mike and Francis helped us sort out the route and got us out in good time for the drive to Leavesden. We made good time on the motorway and were about halfway along when Helen asked Thomas to find her glasses in the green bag. Thomas noted the green bag wasn't in the car. Cue controlled panic. Tickets for the day had been carefully placed in the bag, along with Helen's wallet. But we've just spent four weeks in planning and coordination, and our coping abilities are at their peak. Within 2 minutes we had the tickets showing on Robert's phone and had worked out Robert had enough cash and plastic to knock us out in the gift shop if necessary, so we pressed on.
We arrived early, so we had hot drinks in the cafe and played banagrams until it was time to go in.
Apparently you can get through the tour in 45 minutes. Most people take 3 hours. We took 5 hours. Needless to say, we had a fantastic time. Butterbeer is fine, but not exactly a taste sensation. Flying broomsticks was great fun. Seeing the studios and sets in the same place filming took place was really interesting. The film makers got really good at making fake stone walls and thousands of wands.
We had fun spotting cathedrals and other buildings we had seen which had been incorporated into the huge model of Hogwarts.
We went in in the morning sunshine and came out at sunset, which was a shock. We got home exhausted but happy.
