Today we headed towards Edinburgh, the long and scenic way. We said a temporary goodbye to Marion and Andrew (and Buster and Squeaky) and headed over the fells to Ennerdale Bridge and then around to Keswick.
After morning tea (scones, jam and cream) we continued on and crossed into Yorkshire.
We broke the trip up with a stop at Brough, where we saw a ruined castle, and continued up to Durham. The main attraction for us here was the Cathedral, where some of the Harry Potter movies were filmed. One advantage of travelling in a British Winter is that you can arrive at 4pm and see a cathedral brilliantly lit.
It was impressive. It also housed a scale lego model of itself which was an added bonus.
The nearby castle is also impressive, but we neaded dinner so headed into town for pizza.
We finished the day by haring up past Newcastle to an Inn near Amble where we had an early night. The pub downstairs was surprisingly noisy for a Wednesday night but we managed nevertheless.
