Packing up this morning took longer than usual. After three and a half weeks we have a fairly slick routine for packing and unpacking, but four nights in one place gave us significant scope for spreading out. Eventually we folded everything into the car as the rain started to fall. We said goodbye to Richard and Monica and headed South.
We stopped in Monmouth, birthplace of Henry V, to briefly inspect the medieval bridge.
As the rain fell harder we arrived at Caerleon near Newport. Caerleon was the garrison for a Roman legion for hundreds of years. You can still see the ampitheatre, part of the baths and the barracks.
Finally we had to drag ourselves away to push on to Cardiff for an evening of frivolous entertainment. We drove on into the centre of the city and found our hotel before heading out to the movies to see Rogue One. Two hours later (and thoroughly exhausted from our efforts resisting the Empire) we wandered into the city centre for hamburgers, before heading back to the hotel.
