Cross country

We said (temporary) goodbyes to Frances and Mike today and headed across the country to Norfolk, but not before going for a walk around the local canal.

Our route took us past Bletchly park and Robert couldn't resist the lure of the worlds first programmable electronic computer. The museum has rebuilt it and we got to see it in operation - 2500 valves gently glowing and paper tape input stream whizzing.

Thomas loved the noise of the tape drive and relays.

Our next stop was Cambridge, the little brother of Oxford 😉

We didn't have a lot of time, but managed to wander the streets of the old part of town, marvel at the colleges and then sit down to a hot chocolate and cake.

By 4:30 it was getting pretty dark, but we still squeezed in a trip to Ely Cathedral and we're very glad we did. Thomas insisted that Robert take a photo, so he balanced the camera on a handy cannon.

The interior of the Cathedral is fantastic, with the highlight being an octagonal tower at the center.

Finally we dashed across the Fens to our mustard pot abode. But more of that tomorrow.
